Founded by Dominic and Kerry Doig, The Halcyon Club combines more than 25 years of experience running a successful chartered surveying practice with a belief that people learn and develop best when given the time and space to focus.

Throughout their careers, they saw first-hand the pressures facing professionals, leadership teams and organisations. They also recognised that some of the most valuable learning and decision-making happens away from busy offices, competing priorities and the demands of day-to-day work.

The Halcyon Club - Welcome sign

The Halcyon Club was created to provide a different setting for professional development, leadership programmes and specialist training. Bringing together expert-led learning, practical experience and an exclusive Lake District location, it offers individuals and teams the opportunity to develop skills, share ideas and think differently.

Dominic and Kerry also understood from their own project experience that contracts and processes alone do not create collaboration. Successful outcomes depend on people understanding one another, addressing differences constructively and building trust through their everyday actions.

Our programmes are shaped by real-world experience and supported by specialists from a range of disciplines, including psychology, physiology, nutrition and physical wellbeing. We believe that when people have the right environment, the right support and the time to focus, learning becomes more effective and more valuable.

The Lake District location is an important part of what makes The Halcyon Club different.

Set within 26 acres near Ullswater, the site provides a sense of space and separation from the demands of everyday working life. Combined with our meeting spaces, accommodation and wellbeing facilities, it creates an environment that supports learning, discussion and professional development.

Many visitors comment on the calm atmosphere and the opportunity to focus without the interruptions that often define modern working life. The setting encourages people to slow down, think more carefully and engage more fully with the experience.

Despite its peaceful location, The Halcyon Club is easily accessible. Penrith railway station and Junction 40 of the M6 are both within a 15-minute drive, providing straightforward access from major cities including London, Manchester and Birmingham.
